leaving Microsoft

Today was my last day at Microsoft. In my five years here, I shipped two full versions of Office:Mac, as well a few other things like Remote Desktop and Entourage for Web Services.  MacBU has been a truly awesome team to work with, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together (especially in Outlook!).

I’ve been blogging since I started at Microsoft (you can see my first post on my old blog here).  I’m planning to continue to blog, although I have no idea how it will evolve in the coming weeks and months.  I think it’s safe to say that I’ll write slightly less about Outlook, though. 😉

I’m going to take a little bit of time off before starting my next adventure.  Watch this space to see what’s coming next!

  1. Nadyne, this post is quite a surprise. As someone who’s read your blog entries from the very beginning five years, I can truly say that your posts about the MacBU will be missed. You’ve been an everyman (or everywoman if you prefer) for us—representing us in the “Microsoft Empire.” Somehow, I feel like we’ve lost our “inside” perspective with you gone.

I look forward, though, to hearing of your new adventures.

And one day, you can tell us all the “real” inside stories from the MacBU 🙂

  2. Dang, I just discovered your blog (Outlook syncing issues) today. I appreciated your way of fielding so many difficult comments. I do hope you continue the blog wherever your journey takes you.

  3. Nadyne,

Sad to see that you are leaving Microsoft. Although I’ve only recently started following your blog, I appreciate the help and insight that you have provided.

Does the MacBU have plans to continue an “insider” blog? If not, I think they will miss out on a great marketing and customer service tool.

    Good luck,
    Tom

    1. There’s the official blog, and a few individual team members also have blogs. Both Rick and Schwieb have made noise that they’ll blog more often, but both of them seem to like writing code more than writing posts. MacBU never asked me to do this as an insider blog, I just happened to like doing it. 🙂

  4. Nadyne, the link to Rick Schaut’s blog doesn’t seem to be working–in fact, I haven’t been able to get to his posts in a while–even the old ones (I know he doesn’t blog much anymore). Do you know if he’s moved his blog elsewhere or if his blog is just shut down?

Congrats on VMWare gig, by the way. I hope you still get to use Macs in your work 🙂

    1. I’m able to access Rick’s blog now, so I’m not sure what might be happening on your end.

Yes, VMware is happy to let me continue to be a Mac user. I do have a Windows server under my desk, and I’ve quickly repurposed one of its two monitors to hook up to my Mac instead. I’m now looking into solutions to allow me to run two monitors off of my MBP, so that I can simply RDC into the server when needed.

  5. Nadyne,

I have to say, after reading your blog posts for the past month, I give you a tremendous amount of credit! You have handled the barrage of repetitive and obnoxious posts from people who are mis-directing their anger with considerable grace! Seeing what you have been putting up with reminds me of times that I’ve seen airline passengers yelling at gate agents over flight delays!

Microsoft lost a very professional, skilled employee when they lost you!!
